1944
This is the year which Crinos Industria
Farmacobiological S.p.A was founded (now Sirton), with
head offices at Villa
Guardia (Como), with the aim of searching, developing and
commericialising prescription drugs. The company focused
its research mainly on two important therapeutical fields:
cardiovascular diseases (thrombosis, arteriosclerosis)
and pathologies linked to the digestive apparatus (ulcers
in particular).
Crinos also engaged itself in the parapharmaceutical
field, a newly expanding and highly potential therapeutical
universe and develops cosmetic products which are able
to give innovative answers to problems such as cellulite,
skin ageing and hair trophism malfunctions.
1966
In the early sixties, researchers of the
Crinos Research Labs noticed a remarkable stimulation
of hair growth I the area where the substance was tropically
applied during testing for tolerability of an active
ingredient to be used for the cure of arteriosclerosis.
The “casual discovery” led to a series of
studies for the identification, purification and chemical
standardisation of a particular mixture of mucopolysaccharides,
later identified and patented under the name of Tricosaccaride®,
exclusive active principle used for the treatment against
hair loss. It is from this discovery that the brand Foltène
was born.
1981
After the first success obtained in Italy,
Foltène began its marketing journey in other foreign
markets through a network of partners and local distributors.
Foltène first arrived in France where the brand
obtained the green light from the “Ministère
de la Santè” for the introduction of “Foltène
Traitement de la Chute des Cheveux” in pharmacy.
The Foltène Treatment soon becomes a market leader
in the pharmacy channel with over 1,300,000 units sold
during the first year of product commercialisation. This
marked the beginning of a long-lasting success in European
territories and with time, in many other markets worldwide.
1998
Foltène slowly began its international
expansion of the brand as it slowly makes its entry in
the “hair fall” sector in Australia, Chile,
China, Columbia, Croatia, England, Greece, Hong-Kong,
India, Iran, Israel, Perù, Portugal, Romania,
Serbia & Montenegro, Slovenia, Spain, Thailand, Tunisia,
Turkey, etc. The company also changed its name to Foltène
Laboratories S.p.A. in 1998.
2001
The new active ingredient of marine origin,
Tricalgoxyl®, is developed and patented by Foltène
Laboratories. The ingredient is a mixture of oligosaccharides
extracted from brown algae (Fucus Vesiculosus and Ascophyllum
Nodosum), grown and collected in the area surrounding
the Isle of d’Quessant (Bretagne – France),
a natural resort area protected by Unesco.
The seaweed
extraction process and purification of the active substance
is carried out in accordance with the
extremely strict local environment regulations which
guarantees the highest level of activity and tolerability
to the active ingredient. Due to its unique characteristics,
Tricalgoxyl® became the active ingredient of Foltène
Laboratories’ Women Line products.
2002
The company reorganised and established
the Sirton Group which was an important moment in the
history of Crinos. The company’s activity was branched
into three sectors:
 |
· Sirton
Pharmaceuticals: Production and commercialisation
of under prescription drugs
(www.sirton.it)
· Gentium: Medical research (www.gentium.it)
· Foltène Laboratories: Development and distribution of para-pharmaceutical
and
cosmetic products that are able to give effective and exclusive solutions
to problems of
hair, scalp and cutaneous adnexa (eyelash, nails). |
